Lewy Academic Center

The Lewy Academic Center is the central and oldest building on SEED's campus. The building was constructed in 1970 as the Weatherless Elementary School and was destroyed by several fires in the late 1990s. Only the core building structure and the original wooden stair railings survived the fires. Today, the Lewy Academic Center houses the majority of SEED's classrooms, offices, student support services and laboratories.

Classrooms are arranged by department, with extensive collaboration among and within departments. Hallways are full of student research and creative work, arranged around wide student lockers. The student affairs office, on the first floor, houses the student council, the honor court and the campus work program. The first floor is also home to health offices, parent resources and other student services.

The main library is the center of activity from early morning to late evening. A full technology lab forms the hub of technology instruction, which also extends into classrooms, dormitory study areas and student bedrooms. The hallway intersection in front of the library is the main entrance for students into the academic building. Administrators and faculty are able to greet students here as they enter and leave the building. College, career and summer program opportunities, student council announcements and other news items are widely advertised in this area.
